This isn't a review on the older games (Obviously, But I still feel I should point that out) However, I did play the original and other ports of the game because my first consoles as a child were old enough so that these games could be played. Now, I wasn't around when this game first came out. With a completely remastered soundtrack where can you go wrongīefore I read any of the other reviews, I want to give The Prince of Persia For the Xbox Arcade my own review. the gameplay is pretty much the same more or less if it is not broken why fix it For a 2d platformer that used to be in 8-bitīeing reimmersed into 3d they did an amasing job. i would have to say that the controls in the original were alot more "simple" however once you look at the control menu or pay attention in the tutorial the buttons are fairly simple the only part that lacks a little is to do special parrys in the game so my final parts on this games review are as follows and i hope this guide helps you on your buying decision lastly i must comment on the actual controls as we all know it can be very irritating if a game does not have a decent to well designed button layout. to some die hard fans the game may seem short to how they remember it but believe me when i say the level structures are exactly the same and run step for step i feel that this game would have a moderate re-play value for anyone new to the classic game up to the experienced veterans. Ubisoft did an amazing job with the graphics making modern graphics off of an old time favorite and now with this being posted on true achievments a great buy for anyone to enjoy a game from their earlier days and enjoy it agian and agian with achievements.Īs for the sound the entire game has remastered sound that adds a modern element and more enjoyment to the game. I feel this game was a good remake granted no one else has taken the time to actually remake the original game and produce it to the masses. Prince Of Persia is a game many of us remember well from childhood. Felt it was too short to be a decent review. There are much better versions of this game available and it is worth the extra work to find them.ĮDIT: Cleaned up my review and expanded it. I say this as a fan that has played just about every remake of this game from Mac/PC, Gameboy, SNES, Sega, and everything after. Unless you are a huge fan of the original, stay away.

Simply put, the fun game that once was there has been buried by a bad attempt to modernize the classic. After random deaths annoy you, this will frustrate you as you cannot find a pattern to the enemy attacks. Where I could feel like a sword master, I now feel like a street urchin given a blade they have never used before. I found myself more often than not dreading the combat instead of enjoying it as I once did. There is no clear way to tell when a parry will make an opening for you, nor is there any clear way to tell if your attack will hit or result in an nearly unstoppable counter attack. Likewise, the simple controls of fighting have been remade and in an attempt to make the combat more "exciting" there is a element of randomness to it. Ubisoft tried to balance this with multiple save points in a level, but it does not excuse bad controls. Where I used to be able to play through the game with a single life, I find I die multiple times for no good reason other than bad controls. When attempting to hang from a ledge, the prince again might just decide life is too difficult to continue and die. When you want to slowly approach a ledge, the prince will seemly randomly choose to dive to his death. What was a simple control scheme where one button jumped and another grabbed, Ubisoft chose a system that is unresponsive. Accidentally push the control stick the wrong direction and the prince will roll, jump or do something else unintended that will result in your death. The controls however, will frustrate you time and time again. And I found myself enjoying the extra effort put into the cut scenes. The animation is smooth because of this, and the backgrounds add charm to a game that was very bland.

They have taken what was a bonus in the Sands of Time and turned it into a full blown recreation of the game. Graphically, Prince of Persia has never looked better. However, I have found that Ubisoft has taken what was a well designed game and made it into a lesson in frustration caused by poor controls/design more than anything else. It was one of the first games I bought for the PC. Prince of Persia is a game I remember well from childhood.
